My process

I’m really excited! I just got the first edition of Dark Ship’s cover back from Wicked Good Book Covers and Shayne has outdone herself again. This one looks even better than Dark Water. Now I’m waiting for a slot at the editors and we’ll go from there. Can’t wait to get the second book in the Ryan Weller series out to you guys.

I’m about twenty thousand words into Dark Horse, book three. I typically write organically. I have a rough idea of what the book is about, the characters who will appear, and disappear, and what direction I want things to head. I may write myself some notes about different scenes, what needs to be cleaned up, what needs a little more beef or just to sketch things out so I have a plan. I might even draw a few storyboard cartoons (these are really rough) just to get things heated up in my head.

Following what Wayne Stinnett has detailed, I’ll sit down and read over the previous days work, clean it up, and get back into the story and the minds of the characters. Some I’m always in and some take some thought to get there. I find that I lean more toward Mango than Ryan at times, and at others I’m deeper into Ryan. That’s the way it is, bro. They both live inside of me.

Some days I have more time than others and I’ll write 3-5k a day. Typically, I shoot for 1k a day and know I’ll be around that number even if my imaginary friends aren’t talking to me. If a particular scene is boring for me, I’ll skip around and write a few different ones. Then I’ll come back and fill in the details or ax some dead weight if it’s too boring for me, which means it will be boring for the reader I want them to stay engaged.

There are a few changes coming here. A new website is being built by professionals because I’ve only succeeded in making this one look like a dude with a couple of crayons on a bad trip. Also I’ve engaged a publisher, Third Reef Publishing, LLC to publish all my books. 2018 promises to be a great year!
